Our Heritage & The Lands That Shape Us

Our Heritage

The ancestral story of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines begins with the Indigenous peoples of the islands — most prominently the Kalinago, who journeyed north from the Orinoco River region of South America and made this land their home.

Long before colonial arrival, the island was known in Indigenous heritage as Yurumein, and later as Hairouna — names that still echo through Vincentian identity today, honouring the island's deep spiritual and cultural roots.

The Garifuna people emerged here through the blending of Indigenous Kalinago and Africans from Central and West Africa, forming a unique Afro-Indigenous nation grounded in resilience, resistance, and an unbreakable connection to the land and sea.

Following the Carib Wars of the 18th century, many Garifuna were exiled from Saint Vincent during the colonial era and resettled in parts of Central America. Despite this displacement, they preserved their language, traditions, and identity — a powerful legacy of resilience that continues to inspire generations today.

Together, these communities shaped a vibrant cultural heritage that lives on in the spirit, traditions, food, and strength of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

This is only a glimpse into the rich and layered history of our islands — a story of Indigenous roots, survival, and cultural strength.

At Everything Vincy UK, we honour the people, the history, and the island soul behind every product we share — celebrating the heritage that connects the diaspora and keeping Vincentian culture alive, one experience at a time.

The Lands That Shape Us

Our islands offer some of the Caribbean's most exceptional natural growing conditions:

  • Rich volcanic soil nourished by La Soufrière
  • Warm tropical climate averaging 26°C
  • Lush rainfall and cooling sea breeze
  • Farmland cared for by skilled local growers

These conditions create bold flavours, deep aromas and nutrient-rich ingredients — the unmistakable essence of Vincy products.

Why It Matters

Our people and our land work together. This connection is at the heart of every seasoning, tea, oil, spice and handcrafted product we share — a true expression of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
